Fantastic opportunity for attorneys to further their professional growth and career development in exciting, challenging ways. Put your law degree and technical expertise to work on issues involving the latest in science, technology, and the law. Successful candidates will assist with the procurement of U.S. and foreign patent protection for innovative technologies, evaluate the designs of new products, and assist with the evaluation of competitor products.
Each client brings novel and diverse technologies to our firm. Therefore, the successful candidate will drill in depth into a specific technology, learn to identify inventive features, learn to describe the inventions, and learn to convince the Patent Office to grant a patent for that technology. The position requires the ability to explain and describe new technologies in a way that is concise and technically accurate.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Review new client technologies to determine potentially patentable features.
2. Create technical diagrams and drawings that describe the invention.
3. Write patent applications with clarity and technical accuracy.
4. Prosecute patent applications with U.S., international, and foreign national patent authorities.
5. Review issued patents.
To be successful in this position the candidate must be a strong communicator, both written and oral. The candidate must be able to work independently. In addition, each candidate must already be registered with the United States Patent Office or participate in a patent law course and become registered with the United States Patent Office within one year of hire.
This is a non-partnership track position.
Education and Experience:
J.D. from an ABA accredited school with 3.0 or above GPA.
Must be licensed to practice law, preferably with the State Bar of California.
