Foley & Lardner LLP is seeking a patent associate or agent with 1-7 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience to join the firm’s pre-eminent, national Intellectual Property Department’s Chemical, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice Group in one of the following offices: Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Madison, Milwaukee, San Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley or Washington DC. Qualified candidate must hold a PhD in the biological sciences (i.e. Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology) or a related field and must have strong patent prosecution skills. The candidate preferably has experience drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications and preparing patent opinions specifically in biotechnology or similar technology. Experience preparing responses to Office Actions issued by the USPTO required. Ideal candidate will have immediately transferable skills, strong legal writing and research skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, top academics and law firm experience. To be considered, attorney and agent candidates must have strong academic background and be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Attorney candidates also must hold a JD from an ABA-approved law school and must be in good standing and an active member of the bar of the state in which the candidate is admitted to practice. Timely admission to the Bar coinciding with office of hire will be a condition of employment.
