Intellectual Property Paralegal Jobs description

An intellectual property paralegal provides professional support to lawyers, with a particular focus to intellectual property and patent, to assist in delivering a quality service to client in an efficient and cost–effective manner. An intellectual property paralegal helps attorneys, judges, prosecutors, or public defenders by assisting them with research, preparation and analysis of documents and also interviewing clients and witnesses. An intellectual property paralegal conducts prior art research, tracking, recoding and authenticating, drafting and managing intellectual property licenses and other intellectual property related agreements. An intellectual property paralegal reviews promotional, advertising and marketing materials to provide intellectual property clearance and to evaluate applicable advertising and regulatory issues. An intellectual property paralegal assists with prosecution foreign patents, licensing (tracking and reporting of contracts and royalties), government reporting, on-line patent and trademark searching, maintenance and reporting of patent metrics, preparation of cost/revenue reports and various projects. An intellectual property paralegal educates internal clients regarding intelectual property clearance and proper intelectual property use.

An intellectual property paralegal requires a bachelor\'s degree in law, business, or finance as well as excellent academic credentials. An intellectual property paralegal should have minimum of three years of experience in patent legalities and trademark, with knowledge of producing and filing documents with the national patent office. Passion for intellectual property law with some experience in either patents or trademarks will be beneficial. Working knowledge of advertising law, copyright, and trademark law is a must. An intellectual property paralegal should be able to take on a high degree of responsibility and manage a challenging workload.
