The Associate Counsel II provides legal advice and support for U.S. based companies under the direction of the General Counsel; provides legal advice and support on U.S. law and regulation to the Head Office under the direction of the General Counsel; provide support on all legal matters affecting the company including labor and employment, corporate contracts, documentation, bankruptcy, maritime regulation, admiralty law, and general litigation matters.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Ensure timely, cost effective delivery of quality legal advice and counsel to support internal clients on a broad range of domestic and international legal issues, with an emphasis on labor and employment law matters.
Establish and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure proactive legal involvement and solicitation of assistance.
Participate in litigation matters, investigations, and contract negotiations as required.
Advise management on legal matters in order to safeguard the organization against legal liability.
Ensure proper support of CMA CGM Group Code of Conduct compliance efforts, including policy setting, enforcement, training, follow-up of EthicsPoint complaints and internal investigations.
Manage outside counsel when retained to (i) respond to high demand for legal services, (ii) address issues requiring special expertise and (iii) represent the Group’s interests in litigation. Includes evaluating and developing strategy with respect to complex issues and resolving disputes through negotiation or litigation while minimizing adverse publicity and monetary exposure, maximizing recovery and preserving on-going business relationships with customers, vendors and other third parties.
JD degree from accredited law school; admission to state bar association(s), as required.
Minimum 5-10 years of legal experience in law firm or corporate law department. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working on labor and employment law matters in a union environment.
Licensed to practice law in the State of California or admissible based on in-house counsel admission rules.
Advanced negotiation and project management skills.
