IP Protection and Patent Analyst

Scope of Position:
Support implementation of the CGM intellectual asset protection policies and procedures
Identify and execute on opportunities for continuous improvement, such as new or updated system wide policies and/or associated change management actions (i.e., network DLP policy/rules changes)
Evaluate, recommend and implement additional systems/capability as decided based on three-year plan and technology roadmap
Routinely searches for and analyzes patents and patent applications for projects, technologies, and competitors
Supports attorney delivery of IP risk assessments by: conducting patent searches, facilitating interviews with key
and/or monitoring prosecution of patent applications
Supports development and management of IP Portfolio by participating on teams that review: Invention Disclosures, patent prosecution strategies, and patent maintenance (annuity) decisions
Assists in developing, executing, and updating IP strategy plans to ensure alignment with overall business strategy
Delivers IP landscapes on projects, technologies, or competitors
Facilitates IP evaluations and brainstorming for projects or technologies to identify critical Invention Disclosures
Manages, executes and/or develops standardize IP business processes
Execute trade secret audits and build customized protection plans for high value trade secrets
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Liaises between project teams and/or the IP Department as appropriate and requested by IP counsel.
Attend business, development, or engineering team meetings to provide basic IP perspective and information, resolve issues, and complete action items
Track the generation and submission of new Invention Disclosures to facilitate the timely creation of quality Invention Disclosures meeting Corning standards.
Collect relevant new patent publications related to LCD glass manufacturing and distribute to selected employees for review and input
Execute as needed patent search/analysis projects and report out to attorneys or business leaders
Participate in projects to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency of CDT IP business processes
General research and analysis including: patent publication search and analysis; IP Landscape Analysis; and IP Legal matter support
Advocate for standard methodologies for IP communications and trade secret protection, and ensures information protection guidelines are followed
Supports other related IP Department needs as requested by IP Department.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40hrs/week plus travel, routine evening conference calls.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, optics, chemical, or materials engineering or science. Advanced degree preferred.
2-5 years in technology/ engineering environment and/or 2 years’ direct involvement or experience with management of patent processes.
Patent publication and/or literature searching
Capable of leading small to medium-sized projects in a matrix environment
Strong analytical capability, including actionable output
Demonstrated technical skills, including ability to understand new technology quickly
Ability to facilitate meetings with cross-functional teams
Ability to seek out information, research skills
Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel with ability and willingness to learn new software applications.
Ability to multitask and handle large/variable workload volume
Demonstrated successful participation and facilitation of cross functional teams in a global business environment (across times zones, language, and cultural challenges)
Skills to facilitate electronic data management, production of reports and visual graphics.
