Duties & Responsibilities · Handle the maintenance of U.S. and International trademark matters including online filing and prosecution of applications · Conduct computer research including Saegis, Corsearch, PTO searches · Assist with investigation of third party use of marks · Prepare initial search opinion letters, prepare and file trademark, service mark and copyright applications · Prepare and assist with filing responses to office actions, Statements of Use, Extensions of Time, 8 & 15 affidavits, and renewal applications · Prepare charts and reports outlining the status of domestic trademark and copyright protection, create and customize new reports and charts that outline client trademark protection · Prepare and file all documents in connection with oppositions and cancellation actions · Assist with the preparation of documents to be produced with the preparation of answers to discovery requests · Prepare foreign filing instruction letters, verify foreign filing requirements and oversee the timely filing of formal documents · Review and analyze correspondence from foreign associates, and communicate with attorneys and clients throughout the entire prosecution of an application as well as during the maintenance of the foreign registration · Compile and prepare evidence in support of pending opposition/cancellation proceedings including advertisements, invoices, declarations, affidavits, etc. · Research and assist attorneys with trademark assignments and name/address change recordals in U.S. and foreign countries. Follow-up with assignments/recordals until completed. Skills & Competencies Candidates must have a broad understanding of all aspects of USPTO trademarks work (prosecution, maintenance, and renewals) as well as TTAB proceedings (oppositions, cancellations); a proven ability to manage multiple projects; ability to take initiative as appropriate; online research skills, a high degree of organization, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and detail oriented; additionally, they will be able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong problem solving skills are a must. Knowledge of global trademark laws and procedures, trademark docketing and copyright and domain name protection experience is a plus.
Qualifications & Prior Experience Position requirements include: a Bachelor’s Degree and ABA Paralegal certification. Candidate will have minimum of five years’ experience in Trademarks. Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, Saegis and other informational databases required.
