The individual selected for this position is responsible for Tier 2 network management; customer service, maintenance and repair for the tw telecom
IP network. We are seeking a candidate with Mid-Level telecom/IP engineering experience who possesses and is able to demonstrate a higher level of experience and knowledge.
The Sr. Engineer Network (IP) has the following primary duties and responsibilities:
Provides top level support for Nationwide MPLS Backbone (OC48 & OC192) comprised of 250 Juniper routers
Implements software and hardware upgrades
Provide Tier 2 technical assistance for customer escalations or network infrastructure issues
Tier 2 technical support for Core and metro switches: Extreme & Cisco
Tier 2 technical support for customer facing Email relay and DNS services (Front end on call support for our Tier II UNIX system administrators)
Produces creative solutions to difficult IP problems
Resource for IP backbone equipment
Provides onsite visits as requested or as necessary to assist field technicians in resolving difficult IP troubles or assisting software upgrades
Provides input and direction for surveillance and analysis tools
Assists with new product development and testing
Duplicates problems in lab environment to obtain a better understanding of trouble scenarios
Provides root cause analysis for infrastructure and service issues
Sharing your knowledge with others will prove valuable as you
Coach/mentor Tier 2 Network Engineer 1’s in addition to Tier 1 NOC technicians and field technicians in troubleshooting problems within the IP Network
Utilize verbal and written skills to disseminate information to Tier 1 support groups, TWTC customers, and to work groups internal to and external to Operations
Assist in creating detailed troubleshooting/training documentation and host knowledge transfer/training classes for Tier 1 technicians (Product based and network based technical training.
Assist with authoring and disseminating technical bulletins
Review Network Engineering supplied method of operation (MOP) procedure steps and equipment configurations for accuracy and completeness
Write and maintain the Tier 2 documentation infrastructure. This would include library, software tools, wiki page, web documentation, support tools (both vendor’s and TW internal)
Review NOC procedures and process flows and suggests changes as required
Required Skills:
Knowledge:
Juniper and/or Cisco Certifications are preferred (CCNA, CCNP, CCIP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Skills:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be self-motivated
Requires strong team building skills (works as a team, team responsibilities, assists team members as needed)
Ability to prioritize work without direction.
Customer Service Skills
Strong problem solving skills with an ability to handle multiple tasks
Requires minimal supervision
Initiative to gain additional technical training using internal and external sources
