The Assistant Director, Trademarks & Licensing, is responsible for collaborating with the universitys licensing agent, retailers and more than 400 licensees to grow the institutions public demand for licensed product and increase the retail delivery channels. Successful implementation will result in increased visual awareness of the UA brand and increased licensing royalties.
The current annual royalty income exceeds $2 million annually with potential for a 10 year pattern of 70% growth. Through strategically planned and executed programs designed to fortify retail relationships and increase shelf space commitment to licensed Wildcat product. Primary responsibilities include management of projects and campaigns aimed at:
1)Creating public demand for licensed apparel and non-apparel product
2)Increasing the number of retailers that carry licensed product
3)Growing existing Wildcat retailers commitment to the amount of product carried
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
1)Annual royalty growth
2)Increased number of online and brick and mortar retailers
3)Increase in the number and amount of licensed product carried per retailer as measured through average wholesale dollars per retailer

Trademarks & Licensing supports the UAs diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.
Duties & Responsibilities
*Manage the design approval process - monitor marks use through the critique artwork/designs submitted by licensees for product/service application and provide recommendations or approval.
*Manage administrative support functions for the trademark and licensing office including phone traffic, responding to email and meeting with prospective licensees.
*Interpret policies, guidelines and procedures concerning trademark use by the university community, licensees, businesses, and individuals.
*Monitor IMG College Licensings administrative process of licensing vendors and quarterly reporting.
*Manage relationships with all on-campus entities. These include but are not limited to; the University Bookstore, student groups, student sport clubs, campus departments and colleges.
*Manage campus/local retail relationships, helping position those retailers for success.
*Assist in the planning and execution of annual campaigns and long-term programs for increasing the exposure of UA licensed product in the consumer marketing place locally and nationally and growing the consumer demand.
*Assist in communication links between the University, Licensing Agent, Licensee, and Distributors/Retailers to promote the increase in sales or UA and resulting revenue return to the institution.
*Together with UA Licensing Director, evaluate product lines for quality and liability exposure, marketing ability and distribution strategies, financial performance, along with the industry reputation of prospective licensees.
*Respond to ongoing consumer trends in the creation of advertising campaigns and promotions that exploit current opportunities
*Execute a consistent advertising campaign customized to specific consumer groups including UA alumni, students, fans, parents, and faculty/staff.
*Supervise the execution of an ongoing social media presence to include: website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube
*Maintain lines of communication with peers, industry leaders, associations and media concerning issues that affect collegiate licensing and the UA licensing program.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
*Bachelors degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and experience with the collegiate licensing industry, retail industry or related field.
*Ability to author a marketing plan outlining objectives, audience, budget, timeline and activities.
*Ability to perform multiple, highly-detailed responsibilites on deadline.
*Strong relationship building skills.
*Interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with licensees, retail partners, students, faculty and other campus decision makers.
*Skilled presenter for a variety of audiences including students, staff, faculty and peer institutions.
*Proficiency with a variety of software including: PowerPoint, Word, Access, Visio, and a variety of popular calendaring programs.
*Masters degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND 5 or more years experience with the collegiate licensing industry, retail industry or related field.
*Familiarity with current trends in fashion and popular brands.
*Knowledge of successful marketing strategies for the promotion of licensed products, specifying and buying media, project coordination, retail apparel sales, specialty item acquisition.
*Strong knowledge of licensees and the ability to control the manner of brand use and the products licensed to ensure the dignity of the institution.
*Knowledge of retail product categories, complexities of distribution channels, and retailer classifications to maximize royalty revenue.
*Ability to interpret and implement trademark policies, procedures, and guidelines in order to monitor, authorize and manage the trademark use by internal and external entities.
*Strong institutional knowledge includng the objectives and goals of synergous departments including UA Marketing, University BookStore, Athletics, Alumni Association, Student Activities Office and Advancement, to ensure cooperative and collaborative working relationships.
*Proven track record of sound and efficient decision making on matters related to established policies and procedures including brand identity guidelines.
