Patent Attorney (325019) Legal Support, Regular Full-Time # Samsung Electronics America _,Washington District of Columbia_ Dec 5, 2017 # General Description We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) / Patent Attorney to join our team in Washington, D.C. The duties for this IP / Patent Attorney position will focus on: • Patent Litigation: pre-trial, deposition preparation, brief writing, arguing motions, claims construction, and discovery management • Patent Acquisitions: negotiating with potential sellers of licenses and/or patents • Legal Opinion writing: creating communications regarding legal aspects of litigation or patent matters to be shared with internal parties • Interactions with the US PTO: examiner interviews, monitor technology trends, outreach/interface with the US PTO • HQ Interface: responding to requests for information and partnering with HQ team members on projects Additionally, they will advise on the likelihood of obtaining a patent, partly through studying scientific and technical documents and utilizing their specialist knowledge. They may also renew, defend and enforce patents, trademarks or copyright. Ability to handle the legal legwork required when a patent is transferred or sold, and advise on other intellectual property areas. # Necessary Skills / Attributes • 7-8• years of legal experience • Bachelors in Science or Technology and JD • Must have at least 5 years of experience in patent litigation • Provide legal analysis and management of outside counsels in cases of patent infringement matters • Excellent writing skills with the ability to translate complex business and legal concepts into clear and compelling text. • Able to negotiate and adapt to multiple situations and circumstances including communicating with non-native English speakers • Respond to reports and requests for information • Prefer candidates that have clerked at District Court Level, Federal Circuit, or have previous work experience at the ITC • Actively licensed to practice law within Washington DC • Stay updated with the recent legal developments in the field of intellectual property (IP) law • Excellent analytical, organizational, research and interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail. • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work independently but also within a team • Ability to travel internationally 3-5 times per year, and domestically 20% annually # Company Information SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS AMERICA Since being established in 1969, Samsung Electronics has grown into one of the world’s leading technology companies and has become recognized as one of the top 10 global brands.
