Intellectual Property Jobs
An intellectual property agent works in an intellectual property law firm and knows all the little details about the intellectual property legislation. An intellectual property agent is familiar with patents, copyrights, and all the licenses. An intellectual property agent’s work is to defend the property of intellectual material of something that was invented by a person and then register it. An intellectual property agent assesses the invention with insights to the field of invention from the inventor by searching prior patents and other publications to determine if the invention is patentable. If the invention appears to be patentable, then an intellectual property agent works with the inventor to prepare a document, which is sufficient to teach anyone else who is skilled in the field of the invention to be able to reproduce and work the invention. An intellectual property agent may also be called upon to give an opinion as to whether the claims of an issued patent are infringed or alternatively are valid.
An intellectual property agent requires at least an undergraduate university degree (many have advanced degrees as well) in science or engineering. An intellectual property agent must have excellent written and oral communication skills, superior analytical ability, technical versatility, and the ability to work well with clients and inventors. An intellectual property agent should have ability to work independently and as part of a team with rapidly changing deadlines and priorities.
