Copyright Specialist Jobs
The role of a copyright specialist is to establish communication with the owner of information and seek their formal approval of the copyright agreement. A copyright specialist handles all requests from third parties to use excerpts or limited portions of copyrighted materials for a limited period of time on non-exclusive basis. Requests to translate copyrighted works is also handled by a copyright specialist. A copyright specialist obtains copyright clearances and handles related administrative and clerical details related to the process. A copyright specialist obtains copyright permission from publishers and reviews documents for compliance with copyright laws, provides guidance and direction regarding copyright procedures. A copyright specialist processes and maintains all administrative detail associated with copyright clearance as well as maintains automated and manual records and files. A copyright specialist coordinates the completion of jobs throughout the production process and also recommends appropriate techniques to increase quality and effectiveness of copyright process.
A copyright specialist requires a degree in library/information science or relevant field.
Minimum 2 years of clerical experience that includes processing copyright clearance is must; thorough knowledge of the copyright law is essential. A copyright specialist should be able to interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures. A copyright specialist should be well versed in operating manual and automated office equipment including personal computers and related software. Excellent written and oral communication skills, technical versatility, and the ability to work well with clients is required.
