Copyright litigation associates protect the creative products of writers, musicians and other artists. They also work to ensure that copyrights are applied fairly and in accordance with the law. They must work closely with clients to assure that both creators and users of copyright works are protected to the fullest extent of the law. Copyright litigation associates ensure that all databases and archives of copyright material are accurate, prepares contracts for recording artists to prevent legal and financial liability, assist financial analysts and company executives in understanding and interpreting copyright law and surrounding issues. Copyright litigation associates must remain abreast of new decisions and cases related to copyright litigation and legislation. Copyright litigation associates oversee and monitor copyright applications and prosecution of potential infringements, draft and negotiate non-compete and marketing agreements for copyrighted, trademarked and patented software programs and applications. Copyright litigation associates work with business analysts to meet the needs of the client while protecting the company\'s interests simultaneously.
An copyright litigation associate requires a bachelor\'s degree in an engineering discipline, computer science, information sciences or information technology. A juris doctorate degree program is mostly required. A copyright litigation associate should have minimum of three years experience counseling on intellectual property business, transactional law, and software technologies. In addition to all educational requirements, a copyright litigation associate should have excellent communication and technical writing skills so it will be easy to communicate technically challenging thoughts and ideas to non-technical individuals, like juries.
